I have written the Our Cyber World series as the stories have come to me. As it’s turned out, they haven’t come to me in a clean, linear chronological order. As an additional aid to readers trying to decide where to start and in what order they should read the stories, I drew this series story map.
You can see that, nope, one story doesn’t follow another in straight-line fashion. For example, though they have higher book numbers, you can read Active Shooter or Decisive Moment, and even Pink Ballerina, before you read DEAD BEEF. And you can read DEAD BEEF without reading the stories that precede it, though doing so, will enrich your experience. When it comes to Beisbol Libre and especially Ghost Writer, however, I recommend you should read the prior stories. Clear as mud, right?
A couple of additional things to note regarding the story map:
- Some stories share major characters and carry through plot elements. Solid orange lines show these connections.
- Other stories connected with dashed arrows feature characters (maybe main characters) from other stories, but they don’t play a major role, and they don’t carry forward plot elements in a significant way.
- The stories with green-yellow borders are released, and the rest remain in various stages of development.
As I shared before in 7 Questions & Answers about the Our Cyber World series,
…the multi-threaded, multi-viewpoint nature of Our Cyber World enables a reader to jump in and start exploring with any of the books. You might find a reference here or there to a previous story, but these are never essential to understanding the current story. I would encourage you to browse through the book summaries, see which one strikes your fancy, and go with it.
Does the story map I provide here help you decide where to start or where to go next in the series? I’d be interested to hear what you think, and of course, I can answer any questions you have.
